Yesterday I received a few emails letting me know about the latest study on “low-carb” diets. The inept conclusion of the media being that “low-carb” diets cause heart disease! Oh noes! Thankfully, once again, researchers managed to waste a ton of money gathering crap data to make unfounded conclusions and then convinced the media to report on it like Godzilla had just attacked Tokyo.

Supplementation is a sticky subject for me. On one hand, I shy away from supplements, especially herbal, because they often seem like snake oil. On the other, I see studies like the one below which really tempt me to try one out on myself.

This huge study (52,000 participants over 10 years) shows that high cholesterol (>195) is strongly associated with lower morality rates in women. The results were linear, meaning that the higher a woman’s cholesterol was, her risk of death from any cause was lowered. Once again this clearly shows that women should NOT be trying to lower their total cholesterol and especially should NOT be taking statins which have never been studied in women anyway!
